A Town Called Panic (2009)

Directed by Stéphane Aubier and Vincent Patar

I first watched this movie in 2018, but I recently wanted to watch it again. The film portrays the bizarre and hilarious friendship between a cowboy, an Indigenous man, and a horse. Since it is a foreign film, subtitles are helpful if you do not understand French. However, the movements and expressive voices of the animated characters make it entertaining to watch even without focusing too much on the dialogue. Overall, 10/10 would recommend.

Me and Earl and the Dying Girl (2015)

Directed by Alfonso Gomez-Rejon

This movie is beautifully crafted. There are many small details in the scenes that capture each of the characters' personas well. The story centers around a high school senior, Greg, who successfully blends in with all the cliques in his class... at least until he reaches the story's climax and finds himself in a brawl with an emo classmate. Another character is Earl, whom Greg refers to as his colleague because they remake old movies together. While the story is seen through Greg’s point of view, Earl is the most sensible and the best character. Albeit, I found Greg’s awkward and overtly self-deprecating personality relatable. Additionally, even though his mother forces him to befriend Rachel, who has been diagnosed with leukemia, he eventually builds a strong friendship with her of his own accord, which highlights Greg's character development. On a personal note, I lost my grandpa to cancer when I was around Greg's age, so I found the film both melancholic and comforting. The ending is sad, so be advised.
